Alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and mitochondrial aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH2) are responsible for metabolizing ethanol and their activities contribute to the rate of ethanol elimination from the blood.

Alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) is located in the cytosol of liver and functions as the main enzyme for alcohol metabolism

And also alcohol dehydrogenase will remove the toxic substance from the blood stream and convert it into non- toxic substance in the liver.
