One major environmental issue in my local area that bothers me a lot is the pollution of nearby lakes and ponds. I often see plastic bags, household waste, and sewage entering the water, especially during rainy days. The water becomes dark, smelly, and filled with floating garbage. Many people in my neighbourhood have also said that the lake is no longer fit for any community use, and even animals sometimes drink this polluted water.
This issue affects people, animals, and the environment in many ways. The polluted water increases mosquito breeding, which leads to more fevers like malaria and infections. Animals like cows, dogs, and birds fall sick after drinking contaminated water. The surrounding soil becomes less fertile, affecting nearby plants and small farms. Overall, the biodiversity around the lake has reduced, and the entire area feels less healthy and safe. This makes the issue very worrying to me.
